Longing for the perfect home? The right builder is waiting for you! While building can be a rather lengthy process, it doesn’t have to be a headache. Below are some steps you can take before hiring a builder that will help make the homebuilding process a lot less stressful on you and your family.
1. Buy the land. While you don’t necessarily have to do this before finding a builder, it’s a large step out of the way beforehand if you do. During this process, survey the land, obtain the title and insurance needed, test the septic system soil and if the land can be improved.
2. Handle the paperwork. Go over your loan documents and prepare a list of estimates for materials and labor, submit your loan application, obtain your septic system permit and building permit (if required), and then close on your construction loan. Determine if a compliance bond is necessary.
3. Acquire temporary services for the building process. This includes electricity and water if a well isn’t present on the land you’ve chosen.
4. Prepare your site plan. Have everything ready to present to the builder and other contractors so they can get started as soon as possible.
